Boynton Beach man arrested on child porn charges
BOYNTON BEACH — A Boynton Beach man was arrested Monday on charges of possessing photos of child pornography. Joseph Robert Steinberg, 31, of the 1800 block of Banyan Circle Creek North, allegedly had 21 images of child porn on his computer when it was searched by investigators, the State Attorney's Office announced this morning. Steinberg's arrest was the result of an investigation by The Palm Beach County Sexual Predator Enforcement, a cooperative effort between investigators from the state attorney's office and several local law enforcement agencies. Steinberg, who had worked as a teacher in Korea, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail Monday on charges of possession of material depicting sexual performance of a child and tampering with or fabricating evidence. Originally, Circuit Judge Krista Marx had ruled Steinberg could leave jail on supervised release. But Assistant State Attorney Greg Schiller, who missed the appearance by a few minutes, asked Marx to call Steinberg back out and order a higher bond. Schiller said Steinberg had told investigators he sometimes left the country. Marx then ordered Steinberg instead held in lieu of $9,000 bail. She also ordered that, if released, he be held on house arrest, surrender his passport, and have no access to computers.
