Man killed, infant injured in traffic accident on I-95 in Fort Pierce

FORT PIERCE -- A man was killed and an infant critically injured in a crash on I-95 just south of S.R. 70.

Investigators said Chad Joseph Demarco, 26, of Coral Springs, was driving his Nissan Murano northbound on I-95 at about 10:20 p.m. when, for an unknown reason, he stopped the car in the center lane and put his flashers on. He then got out of the car.

He got back in just as a semi tractor-trailer driven by Michael J. Holcombe, 44, of Wildwood, Fla., plowed into the back of the car.

Demarco was ejected from the car and died at the scene. An infant, whose name is unknown, was also ejected from the Nissan and flown to St. Mary's Medical Center with critical injuries.

Other passengers in the Nissan, Barbara Ann Ashley, 23, and Keniesha Harris, 18, were transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center with critical injuries.

Holcombe received minor injuries.
