St. Lucie County Leaders Take Pledge to Go Green: Change One Bulb
Comments 0 | Recommend 0
They want every household to go green one bulb at a time.
St. Lucie County leaders are encouraging residents to take the pledge to change at least one light in your home to an energy-efficient bulb. Their goal is to chage over 1,000 bulbs, which will save 409,000 pounds of greenhouse gases.. and it will save homeowners in energy costs combined of over $26,000.
The reduction in greenhouse gas over the lightbulb's lifetime is the equivalent of burning 200 pounds of coal.
According to the bulb-changing leaders, if every American used one less lightbulb and one more ENERGY STAR qualified bulb, we would:
Conserve enough energy to light over three million homes for a year.
Prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of more than 800,000 cars.
Save at least $600,000,000 in annual energy costs.
Those who oppose the new lightbulbs say they contain mercury and are toxic if broken.
