Pratt & Whitney lays off 17 in West Palm Beach area

WEST PALM BEACH -- Local employer Pratt & Whitney laid off 17 employees in the Palm Beach area today.
The layoffs are part of a 45 person workforce reduction over three facilities across the country.
Pratt & Whitney worked on, among other things, the Space Shuttle engine. As the Space Shuttle program winds down, so do the contracts that used to pay those salaries.
The company could experience more layoffs, as more aerospace contracts change.
