Ice Cream Man Shot and Killed

The driver of an ice-cream truck was shot and killed inside his truck in an apparent robbery attempt while he was making his rounds.

The man was identified as Fresnel Atilus, 32, a hard-working father who sold ice-cream, chicken wings and hot dogs from a truck to support his family.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is working the shooting at 835 Foresteria Drive in Lake Park, one block from Atilus' home. The shooting occurred at about 7:15 p.m.

Grieving friends and neighbors gathered at the scene tonight while investigators searched for clues.

Investigators say this is the second time Atilus was robbed in the last month. On Nov. 7, he told the sheriff's office that two men who appeared to be younger than 20 approached his truck with a gun, but they didn't get any money because he kept driving. That incident was about two blocks away from the shooting.

In this case, investigators believe the assailants flagged Atilus down to rob him, but it's unclear if they got any money or if it was the same culprits.

Investigators released a description of a vehicle seen fleeing from the scene tonight: a 4-door, blue or teal Buick Roadmaster with a broken front light. They believe there were three teenagers or young adults involved in the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800)458-TIPS
