Family of girl killed in crash awarded $6 million
WEST PALM BEACH — A family who lost their daughter in a car accident seven years ago won a $6 million lawsuit against the driver now in prison for her death.
Kaitlyn Kazanjian, 16, the daughter of a sheriff's Sgt John Kazanjian, was killed when Carlos Pozo, then 16, was speeding on a rain-slicked road in the Palm Beach Gardens' PGA National community and his Acura slammed into trees. The impact catapulted Kazanjian out of her seat belt.
Pozo, now 23, began serving his 5 1/2 year prison sentence in February. Before that, he had remained out of jail on bond, attending college, during unsuccessful appeals of his 2005 vehicular homicide conviction.
