Injured Worker Speaks After Car Crashes Through Pavement Crew, Killing Two
A Wellington man is lucky to be alive. Two of his co-workers are dead, yet somehow he survived after a driver plowed through a roadway construction zone.
He's sharing his story of survival.
"For me, it was a terrible day. But I kept saying, how lucky, how lucky. And I said I didn't feel lucky," said Clint Talley.
Talley, an asphalt foreman, has had quite a day. And has the broken foot to prove it. Just after midnight Friday, he was working on a section of Alternate A1A in Jupiter when police say a driver plowed through the paving crew, despite the cones and a flashing sign. The driver kept right on going, rear ending another car. Talley says he didn't even see it coming.
"I heard what I thought was the mirror hit me in the back and I didn't even know how my foot actually it is like from my hip all the way down and I kind of freaked out," said Talley.
Dead at the scene were Jesus Resendiz of Palm Beach County and Steven Dunn of Georgia, who was working as a consultant.
"I'd say it was a loss. Major loss," said Talley.
The driver of the car has been identified as 43-year-old Cynthia Castoro of Tequesta. So far, she has not been charged.
Now as Talley recovers with get well wishes around him, he just hopes drivers will now pay more attention when road crews are working.
"Everyday it goes through my mind. Well hopefully tonight won't be the night. It's always been there. It's always been traffic," he said.
Talley says he will be going back to the doctor next week, so he can get a cast on his foot. He doesn't know yet though how long he'll be off the job, but he says he already wants to go back.
As for that driver, Jupiter Police are still investigating and are waiting on results from a blood sample.
