200 Jobs Expected to Open in Vero

April 29, 2008 - 12:48PM

VERO BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Piper Aircraft Inc. will likely remain in Vero Beach after being offered a $32 million incentive package
to stay.
Piper had been searching for a potential new headquarters for more than a year. CEO Jim Bass says the Florida deal will almost
certainly mean the company stays put.  Indian River County will pay $12 million with the state kicking in the additional $20 million.
In exchange for the money, the plane maker is expected to add more than 200 employees to its current plant staff of about 1,200.
The company says it plans to use the money to enhance production of its new single-engine PiperJet, buy new equipment and revamp its plant at the Vero Beach Municipal Airport, where it's been for more than 50 years.
