Fugitive Files: A New Direction
Comments 0 | Recommend 0From now on, Fugitive Files will head in a new direction. Since November, we've aired as many a four wanted fugitives each week. The idea has been to show these people to our viewers, people wanted for everything from Murder to fraud to theft. We are going to keep doing that, but starting tonight, we are also going to take you "inside" some of those cases. You'll get to hear from Palm Beach County detectives on why these fugitives need to be caught. You'll even hear from some of the victims and learn how these crimes have affected their lives and why we are all vulnerable. It's all part of CBS 12's Fugitive Files, our partnership with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and Crimestoppers.
Wanted Fugitive: Raoul Dion Harris Jr. 04-07-2008
Victim Jennifer Cares will tell you it doesn't take long to become a victim of a crime that can change your life forever. "I just came by here for a second, to pick something up" Jennifer said about the day it all changed.
It was Saturday August 2nd. Jennifer, her son Tyler and her husband stopped by her office on Silver Beach Road in Lake Park. All three went inside for just a few moments and when they came out, "I saw glass everywhere", says Carnes.
Police say 24 year old Raoul Dion Harris Jr. broke into her car and stole her purse and started a spending spree. Within 10 minutes, Harris had already started using Carnes's credit cards at a gas station and the Target on Palm Beach Lakes. Not long after that, he was spotted in surveillance pictures trying to use the credit cards at the Target jewelry counter. After all was said and done, Jennifer was out more than $3000, plus the cash in her purse, and more.
"So now this man had a key to my car. He had my address, he had my social security card, he has my check book and my id", said Carnes. As a result, Carnes says she and her family had to make a difficult choice. "We moved. I was so petrified because this person knew where we lived and we have children, you know we moved."
Detective Danny Shea has been working the case since last summer. But even with the surveillance pictures, including a picture of a car Harris was thought to be driving, he has not been able to track him down. But Shea believes Harris is still in the area. "He's a local of West Palm Beach. He has a girlfriend in the area. I know he frequents that [West Palm Beach] on the corners", says Shea.
Jennifer says she'll remain afraid until Harris is caught. She's already moved out of Palm Beach County, and is now considering a move out of Florida. "You think that you are safe, just because you lock your car, nah, 'cause they are watching, Carnes says. "
As I mentioned we also have three other fugitives the sheriff's office would like you to keep an out for. The following people were all wanted as of April 7th, 2008.
Jesus Alpizar from Belle Glade, a probation violator, wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Joseph Alt from Palm Beach Gardens, a probation violator. He's wanted for dealing in stolen property and grand theft from a person 65 years or older.
Take a close look. If you recognize anyone call Crimestoppers at 1-800-548-Tips.
