CBS 12's Extraordinary People: 89 year old Tequesta woman, recognized with 1st Senior Service Award

TEQUESTA, Fla. -- With all the bad news happening in the world, it's refreshing to know there are good people doing great things among us. The young, and the young at heart, making a difference in our local communities everyday. In this week's Extraordinary People, CBS12's Michele Wright spotlights Marilyn Marshall. Marshall is the recipient of the inaugural Senior Service Award.

"Marilyn does everything and anything she's asked to or wouldn't mind doing. It was our way to recognize her and others in the future for the things that they do to help others" said Lisa Gallagher, Executive Director of Tequesta Terrace Assisted Living.

Volunteering with a wonderful group of ladies at Our Sister's Place Thrift store in Tequesta which assists women and children who are dealing with domestic violence. Marshall was honored with a check donation and tropical party just for her.

"I felt very honored. I hope others can do the same. It makes you feel good and that's important. I've always helped other people. Taken care of members of my family. My family is very important to me. I love when my children come to visit me. I love my grandchildren and my great grandchildren so much" said Marshall.

Hazel Ragiue has partnered with Marshall at Our Sister's Place and at the domestic abuse shelter in Riviera Beach, Florida Resource Center. She nominated Marshall for the prestigious award and wanted South Florida to be inspired by her story.

"What's to say about Marilyn other than she's a lovely, lovely woman. She works continuously, six days a week and thinks nothing of six to seven hours a day. She's going to be 90 years old next April," said Ragiue.

Marshall tells CBS 12's Michele Wright that the fountain of youth is to stay busy, cherish life with a positive attitude and willingness to help others to enjoy a long, happy life.

"It's very rewarding. I like people. And I enjoy the things that I'm doing," said Marshall.

And she doesn't plan on slowing down anytime soon.
