Boynton Beach woman charged with DUI manslaughter

A Boynton Beach woman has been charged with DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide after she hit and killed an 87-year old woman crossing the street.
Traffic Homicide Investigators charged Michele Ammirato, 48, on Monday. Ammirato was also charged with driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of a crash involving a death.

Priscilla Servant was killed the morning of September 17th when she crossed the 2600 block of South Federal Highway and was struck by Ammirato's Kia. Ammirato kept driving, later telling police that she knew she hit someone but "traffic was too heavy
for her to stop."

Ammirato's licensed was suspended in February 2008. She told investigators that she knew her license was suspended. In addition, a toxicology report detected cocaine in her blood at the time of the crash.

Ammirato will be held at the Palm Beach County Jail.
