Pet Insurance Controversy
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Controversy over plans to give the pets of Palm Beach Community College employees health benefits while denying similar benefits to their domestic partners. Starting in January, pets of full-time employees will be eligible for discounted group medical insurance enefits.
That's up to a five percent discount on services for cats, dogs, hedgehogs, iguanas, frogs and even pigs. Gay rights advocates say a pet's medical needs should not be placed above a human's loved one. However, The board of trustees for the college does plan to take up the issue of extending insurance to domestic partners in the next year or two.
