Are You Dining at a Dirty Restaurant?
A big name fast food restaurant is in big trouble with the State Health Inspector. A Burger King restaurant got in trouble earlier this month for a rat infestation at one of its restaurants. The store is now back open for business but CBS 12 I-Team's Tara Cardoso did some digging and has the Dirty Dining report about what happened and what's going on now.
Diners we talked to are disgusted because the Burger King on Forest Hill Boulevard and Military Trail was shut down for 1 day on June 19th because of a "rat infestation." According to the inspection report, the state health inspector found "rodent droppings" on top of the "fryer station," by the "service counter" and in the "dining room." So, how did the rats get inside the restaurant?
Patrick Chance, an employee that works at the furniture business across the street from Burger King told CBS 12 that he's seen rats running behind, and in the dumpster outside the restaurant. He says he wouldn't expect the rats to get inside the building, though. At the restaurant, the Burger King manager couldn't answer our questions. So, we called their corporate office and they gave us this statement:
"Food safety and restaurant cleanliness are non-negotiable at BURGER KING® restaurants. Burger King Corp. (BKC) corrected all violations cited by the health department. The restaurant was granted clearance by the health department to reopen the following day, June 20. The restaurant has been sanitized and cleaned and an exterminator has been on-site repeatedly. Additionally, a third party company reviewed and reported compliance with cleanliness procedures before the restaurant was reopened. The managers and staff have been retrained on our strict cleanliness procedures."
