Tropical Storm Blanca forms off Mexico

AP

Tropical Storm Blanca developed early Monday morning into the second tropical storm of the 2009 eastern Pacific hurricane season.

Blanca has strengthened a bit through the morning hours after its initial formation, and that trend may continue through Monday.

The forecast confidence, both in intensity and projected path, is high with Blanca.

After its initial strengthening phase, Blanca will push farther west-northwest into a much more stable atmospheric environment. This stable atmosphere will lead to its weakening and eventual dissipation in the open waters.

Impacts over land will be minimal from Blanca but waves of 6-10 feet will eventually reach southern and southwest Baja beginning on Tuesday and peaking in the 6-10 foot range late Tuesday/early Wednesday.

Beaches along the Baja coast facing south or south-southwest will experience the highest waves.
