BREAKING NEWS: Body found in landfill is missing 7-year-old Somer Thompson

JACKSONVILLE-- Investigators confirmed this morning the small body found in a Georgia landfill is missing 7-year-old Somer Thompson.

She was identified by a birthmark. An autopsy scheduled for later today will determine how she died.

The body was discovered in Folkson, Ga., yesterday afternoon -- where the FBI, FDLE and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation were investigating.

"The body was partially covered. All we could see were the lower extremities," Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler said.

The trash that goes to that southern Georgia landfill comes from Somer's neighborhood in the Jacksonville area.

Her father, who lives in North Carolina, told the Florida Times-Union newspaper that a birth mark on the body matched one on his daughter.

Somer went missing Monday afternoon after separating from her sister as they walked home from school.

Police suspected foul play all along.
