New Organization Giving Away Free Costumes, Needs Help
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A new organization is hoping to make a difference for underprivileged children this Halloween.
The festivities are just days away and we all know that the prices for many childlren's costumes can be downright scary.
Chris McCarthy sorts through several bins, filling up with donated Halloween costumes.
"We're changing lives one costume at a time," said McCarthy.
And that's the motto behind this new effort which was started by McCarthy's two adult sons.
The organization is called Free Costumes for Kids.
It's aimed at collecting gently used or new costumes for children, who otherwise may not have an outfit to wear for Halloween.
"It's very difficult for parents to meet all the needs of their children. And as a guidance counselor I found that sometimes when you do something a little special for someone who is in need, it can actually change their attitude and make a difference in their lives," said McCarthy.
Back in September the group started reaching out to schools to help collect, acting as drop-off locations. Others schools they distribute to, and have gotten sizes and the number of costumes needed.
So far, the organization has already collected 150 costumes, everything from princesses to Pooh Bear stuff. But they say they still need hundreds more. McCarthy is now looking to gather up 500 more costumes and is asking for donations. She's thrilled about the success so far, and wants it to continue.
"We're really been overwhelmed and overjoyed at the same time, but we're just hoping that we don't have to disappoint anyone," said McCarthy.
