Important Voter Deadline Today

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

After all the months of campaigning and debates and television ads, it would be a shame to miss out on the presidential election in November.
But this is your last day to register to vote. Today Monday October 6 is the deadline.
Here's a look at how many people are registered to vote in our area.
The latest figures show Palm Beach County has nearly 810,000 registered voters.
Martin County has a little over 100,000.
St. Lucie county has close to 153,000 registered voters, according to the county elections office there.
And there are about 88,000 people registered to vote in Indian River County.
There's still time to register, but time is running out. If you don't do it by today, you can't vote in the November election.
In Palm Beach County, there's been a recent surge of people registering to vote, many of them younger than 30.
Some fear that could pose a problem, trying to process all those voter registrations in the short time before the November 4th election.
The League of Women Voters says counties may be overloaded with paperwork and and if someone incorrectly enters a newly-registered voter's name or other information into a computer, then that person may not be allowed to vote in the presidential race in November.
That means it would be wise for individual voters to check with their county's elections office, to verify that their name and address on file with the office is correct.
The acting Palm Beach County supervisor of elections says they've hired extra staff to help process the mountain of new voter registrations in time for the November election.
