PBSO Deputy accidentaly shoots other deputy

There are new developments surrounding a deputy involved shooting at the Kings Point housing community in Delray Beach.

Investigators with the Sheriff's Office say they have determined that a bullet that struck a police shield used by one of the deputies involved, did not come from a the person first thought to have fired a weapon at the deputies. Instead, the bullet is said to have been fired by another deputy on scene, accidentally.

The shooting took place on March 3rd, outside the door of Dallas Adkins. Adkins, deputies say, was threatening to take his own life with a gun, and after several failed attempts at reaching him on the phone, deputies moved in to confront Adkins.  When Adkins opened the door, 3 deputies saw a 30 caliber carbine rifle pointed directly at them, and that's when two deputies opened fire.

At one point, a bullet struck a bulletproof shield being carried by one of the deputies.  That bullet was believed to have been fired by Adkins, but a ballistic investigation indicates that the round dispensed into the shield came from a 40 caliber glock pistol that one of the deputies was firing.  Investigators say the round must have bounced off of a hard surface, as one of the deputies fired multiple rounds at Adkins through his front window.

On Thursday, investigators with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office say all of the deputies involved acted properly and with safety in mind.  All three deputies involved have since returned to their regular shifts.  Adkins remains in the hospital, in stable but critical condition.  He now faces a charge of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
