Meal Deals: Which Grocery Store Sells the Cheapest Produce

All this week we put the three big grocery stores to the test. One day last week I went to a Publix, Winn Dixie and Wal Mart in my neighborhood. I had a grocery list and looked for the best deals for those items in all the stores. Today we are focusing on who has the best meal deals for produce.

First on the list is tomatoes. At Publix I found them for $1.99 a pound. At Winn Dixie there was a great deal. It was the cheapest at just $1 a pound. Wal Mart offered them for a $1.88 a pound.

Next up is broccoli. Publix was selling it for $2.49 a cluster. Winn Dixie once again had the best deal at just $1.50. Wal Mart had it at $1.68.

Strawberries are in season and we were expecting deals. At Publix I found them for $2.50 a pound. Once again Winn Dixie comes in the cheapest at just $2.00. Wal Mart is the most expensive at $2.88.

Oranges is the last item we checked. Publix was the most expensive at a $1.99. Winn Dixie came in at $1.69 a pound and by far the cheapest was Wal Mart at just $.96 a pound.

Add up all the totals and for our produce grocery list Publix was the most expensive with a total of $8.97. Winn Dixie was only $6.19. Wal Mart came in at $7.40.

The winner by far is Winn Dixie, offering the best meals deals for produce.

Remember this was just one day. Depending on sales, one store could be cheaper than another on certain days.
