Car Crashes, Sails Several Hundred Feet; Two Hospitalized
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Instead of heading over the river and through the woods, a local driver headed over a six-lane road, through a lightly wooded area and into a family's backyard, splintering a fence and creating quite a clean-up.
"I went into kind of panic mode," said Richard Kilgore, who lives nearby and heard the impact of the crash.
Sheriff's deputies say the driver was leaving the Jamaica Bay community in suburban Boynton Beach around 6 am Tuesday. Witnesses tell police the driver ran a stop sign and hit another car, which was travelling north on Military Trail just south of Gateway Boulevard. The two cars collided, but the first car kept going.
"[The driver of the first car] went over the hill, all the way over here, through the fence and hit the fence," Kilgore added. "There's a tree behind it. That's basically what stopped her. Otherwise she would've just kept going until the next house."
Rescue crews had to use the Jaws Of Life to pull the driver from her car. Both she and the other driver were taken to Bethesda Memorial Hospital. Authorities say their injuries are non life-threatening.
Military Trail was shut down for a few hours while authorities investigated the crash.
The names and conditions of the drivers have not been released.
