Drug ring busted
$25,000 worth of oxycodone is off the streets in Indian River County and police believe they've taken out some key players in a Treasure Cost Drug scene. 'Oxycodone Blues', that's the name Treasure Coast cops are giving their latest bust. Police say four men were running an illegal oxycodone operation involving pharmacies across south Florida and as far away as Fort Lauderdale. Drugs and money were seized from Sebastian and Vero Beach streets.
Detective Rich Snell said, "This is from a case that one of our narcotics detectives worked, we have several pills roughly 5 to 8 hundred pills we've confiscated."
Ken Stossel, Terry Karr, Craig Stossel have all been booked in the past month on drug charges for their separate roles in the operation. Sebastian Police tell us one man is still on the run. Local police say the street value for one of these pills is $20. This latest bust only made a small dent in the supply so that price will likely stay the same.
Marge Szoke, who lives in the area, said, "It's a pretty sketchy drug and also there's been a lot of burglaries, break ins, and robberies that you didn't hear of years ago."
Another neighbor, Neil Leigh, said, "Well it's like any drug, it's nasty, it's addictive and people will do anything to get it."
Many admit things are changing up here and police have the goods to prove it. If you have any information on where Anthony Giufreda might be call Sebastian Police at 772-589-5233.
