Petition to end export of American visual effects jobs
The American visual effects industry is suffering right now. Many VFX facilities have been forced to move or have gone out of business because of underbidding exacerbated by government subsidies that drastically distort the price of VFX. For Example Last year, the province of British Columbia spent $437 Million to subsidize film production. For every $100 paid to a BC VFX worker, the government pays $60 back to the studio. This is not a tax credit, it goes beyond the tax liability. No matter how successful or efficient our work is, we are ultimately at the mercy of the next government willing to distort prices and put the companies we work for out of business. We want to end the race to the bottom so we can compete on a level playing field and begin the race to the top.

Super Bowl Party Recipe
Big Game Party Recipe:
Black Bean Hummus
Makes about 4 cups
Ingredients
6 garlic cloves
2 (15 ounce) cans black beans, drained
cup tahini well stirred
cup fresh lime juice, or to taste
cup olive oil, or to taste
cup fresh cilantro leaves
1 tablespoon ground cumin
Salt and pepper to taste
Method
In a food processor pure the garlic with black beans, tahini, lime juice, 1/4 cup oil, scraping down the sides of the bowl, until the hummus is smooth. Add rest of ingredients and puree until smooth. Add water, if necessary, to thin the hummus to the desired consistency and season the hummus to taste with salt and pepper.
Mojo Pork
Serves 6
Ingredients
2 (20-ounce) bottles mojo marinade, divided
2-2 pound pork shoulder
1 sweet onion, quartered
5-6 peeled garlic cloves, smashed
1 quart water
2 bay leaves
1 tablespoon black peppercorns
3 tablespoons ground cumin
2 tablespoons Spanish paprika
Method
Preheat oven to 400F.
In a large Dutch oven add 15 ounces of marinade, reserving the rest for a later use. Add the next eight ingredients and cover with aluminum foil or lid and cook for approximately 5 hours or until pork falls easily apart, 190F is for pull-able pork.
Carefully remove pork from liquid, strain, and set aside. When pork is cool enough to handle, start shredding either with a fork and tongs or hands. Once shredded, place pork back into pot and turn heat to medium. Add some of strained liquid to the pork, but you do not want it too thin. Season with salt and pepper.
Crispy Fried Onions
Serves 4
Ingredients
Oil for frying
1 large spanish onion, sliced into thin rings
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon salt
teaspoon pepper
3 cups flour
3 tablespoons garlic powder
3 tablespoons onion powder
1 teaspoon cayenne
Salt and pepper to taste
Method
Heat oil to 350F.
In a medium bowl mix buttermilk, salt, pepper, and onions. Set aside for at least 30 minutes.
In a medium bowl mix flour, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
Remove onions from buttermilk and drain off excess. Toss in flour and shake off excess. Fry in batches until golden brown. Place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Chipotle Barbecue Sauce
Makes 1 quart
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 cup sliced onions
cup cider vinegar
3 chipotle peppers with adobo, stemmed and seeded
5 large cloves garlic, roasted
cup molasses, or to taste
1 cups ketchup
cup water
Salt, to taste
Method:
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat the olive oil and saut onions until they are browned and completely soft, about 3 minutes.
Add vinegar and bring it to a simmer. Add peppers to the pan along with the garlic, molasses and ketchup; stir well to blend. Simmer for 5 to 8 minutes or until the flavors are blended.
Add some or all of the water to adjust the consistency. Put sauce into a blender and pure it until smooth.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 8 days.

Two hours off to vote
PORT. ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Some businesses will close for a half hour, others for more all in the name of getting employees to get out and vote.
Employer Steve Hawk Levy is starting a movement against inaction. Levy who is a St. Lucie Jewelry Store Owner says, "Allow them a block of time to go and vote, give them that opportunity, the freedom to go and vote and they'll do it if you give them the time?
Levy started 2hours4yourcountry.org. Its a movement to encourage business owners to close shop or pay employees on Election Day while they go to the polls. It begins at his jewelry store.
Tara Henderson works there. "It helps me to be responsible for voting. It gives me the freedom to do that because otherwise I have to be at work, and I have children and a husband."
And others are getting onboard. Roger Dunshee of Twin Vee Boats, a pillar in the community says, Wow this is great I want to be a part of it.
Levy hopes his 2hours4yourcountry.org will go viral. "This is something that is huge. Its major, very important and I am happy he's doing this."
Business owners say employees who vote make better Americans, and better Americans make better employees.

Unclaimed money in the state of Florida
Currently, the Chief Financial Officer holds unclaimed property accounts valued at more than $1 billion, mostly from dormant accounts in financial institutions, insurance and utility companies, securities and trust holdings. In addition to money and securities, unclaimed property includes tangible property such as watches, jewelry, coins, currency, stamps, historical items and other miscellaneous articles from abandoned safe deposit boxes. Unclaimed money is deposited into the state school fund, where it is used for public education. There is, however, no statute of limitations, and citizens have the right to claim their property any time at no cost.
