Report: 83-percent of doctors consider quitting over Obama's health care reform

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. -- A big debate today happening in the nation's capitol on whether to repeal President Obama's Affordable Care Act. The vote is likely to pass the House of Representatives but it is highly unlikely to pass the Senate where Democrats are in the majority and the White House has promised to veto the legislation if it makes it that far.

According to a new survey, President Barack Obama's Health Care reform law may have some doctors bailing out of their careers. Additionally, the new law could create a big shortage of doctors in the U.S as well.

As a pediatrician in Delray Beach for more than a decade, Dr. Brad Bradford is dedicated to his patients and his profession.

Dr. Brad Bradford: I'm certainly not quitting and not even contemplating such, and I don't know of physicians who have contemplated quitting because of it.

But a recent survey released by the Doctor Patient Medical Association found 83 percent of American physicians have considered leaving their practices over President Obama's Health Care Reform law.

Dr. Brad Bradford: It seems rather high to think over 90 percent of doctors in U.S. would leave profession over that. We really went into medicine to reach out to heal, to help, and serve patients.

The DPMA, a non-partisan association of doctors and patients, surveyed a random selection of nearly 700 doctors nationwide.

Dr. Karl Dhana is the Vice President of Medical affairs at Morse Life in West Palm Beach, a senior living facility with 280 patients whose average age is 91.

Dr. Karl Dhana: I think primary care physicians are very excited. Specialists are a little worried, healthcare is broken, we only get paid if someone is sick.

Even if doctors don't quit their jobs over the Affordable Health Care Act, experts say America will face a shortage of at least 90,000 doctors by 2020 because the new law increases demand for physicians by expanding insurance coverage.

Dr. Karl Dhana: I think its always a concern especially as a geriatrician been a shortage and continue to be a shortage. But I think we have to come up with a creative way to take care of all these patients
