NEW YORK (AP) -- Breakups are rarely easy. And the split between CBS and Rihanna has the marks of a messy one. The network has cut "Run This Town" from its Thursday night NFL telecasts. But it's unclear whose decision it was. CBS says the decision was in part because of the Ray Rice domestic violence case and Rihanna's own beating by Chris Brown in 2009. Rihanna's bosses at Jay-Z's Roc Nation Company says it decided to yank the song. And Rihanna is unhappy. She feels CBS abandoned her-- and punished her for being the victim of domestic abuse at a time her past would have come up in the context of the Rice case. In her tweet, she used a profanity toward the network -- and after the tweet, the league spiked the song.

AP Entertainment Editor Oscar Wells Gabriel reports CBS cut a song featuring Rihanna from its Thursday night NFL broadcasts.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Octavia Spencer says after getting an Oscar, she was offered plenty of roles for TV shows. But she says she wanted to be in an ensemble -- but not a sitcom. That's what she has in her new show "Red Band Society," which makes its debut tonight. Spencer plays the head nurse in the show -- which is a dramedy following the progress of a group of long-term patients in a children's hospital. Spencer says after winning an Oscar, she doesn't feel the need to be the focal point of a series. As she put it: "I have the prize in the Cracker Jack box. I don't need to be the prize."

Octavia Spencer says the action in "Red Band Society" centers on the young actors in the cast.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Talk about what might have been. Jerry Seinfeld says Joan Rivers had agreed to do an episode of his digital series "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee." But before she could do the piece, the comedian pulled out -- because she was going to have a medical procedure. It never happened. Rivers went into cardiac arrest during a throat procedure on August 28 -- and died a week later. In a post on his show's Facebook page, Seinfeld says he hoped the appearance would give Rivers a chance to show the public another side of her -- and to tell her how much he appreciated her work.

AP Entertainment Editor Oscar Wells Gabriel reports Jerry Seinfeld says he had good reasons for wanting Joan Rivers on his Internet show.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Dancing is a no-go for Lolo. Olympian and track star Lolo Jones is the first to be voted off Season 19 of "Dancing With the Stars." She had the lowest combined scores from the judges and viewers following her cha-cha Monday night. Jones says she was distracted by a text message just before performing. But she has no hard feelings. Jones says fashion designer Betsey Johnson, who was also in the bottom two, deserves to come back next week. The 72-year-old Johnson was tripped up by a feather boa during her performance.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) -- He's been in the movies. But Leonardo DiCaprio has long been involved in making the environment better. And it was for those efforts that the actor has been named a U.N. Messenger of Peace. The U.N. Secretary-General announced DiCaprio will be taking part in a special effort to address climate change. Other U.N. peace messengers include Stevie Wonder, Michael Douglas and George Clooney.
