TRACY MORGAN -- HOST BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Tracy Morgan says he has found his birth dad -- and he's Wayne Newton. It was one of the jokes he used to help open his hosting stint on the Billboard Music Awards last night. Newton was not only on hand, he was in on the joke, standing up to take a bow when Morgan introduced him. The veteran Las Vegas entertainer looked a little like Billy Crystal with his face a little on the puffy side, but sporting few wrinkles. Morgan also riffed on the host city's rep as an all-hours fun spot, saying "even vampires get tired at Vegas." Poking fun at the city's advertising slogan, Morgan said what happens in Vegas, "goes instantly to YouTube -- sometimes InstaGram, depending on the flick." At one point, Morgan wore a sequined jacket, saying it was a tribute to Michael Jackson. And he said his New York City public school was so tough, they didn't get recess, but were "released on their own recognizance."

"STAR TREK" WINS, YET DISAPPOINTS, AT BOX OFFICE
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The new "Star Trek" movie is number one at the box office. But it didn't exactly wow 'em when it came to taking care of business at the cash register. "Star Trek: Into Darkness" took in $70.6 million dollars over the weekend. That would be huge for a lot of movies -- but its maker, Paramount, predicted it would pull in about $100 million in its first week of release. The sequel also falls short of its predecessor, which came out in 2009. That opened with $75.2 million for its opening weekend. The Star Trek release knocks "Iron Man 3" down a notch to number two. "The Great Gatsby" is third.

BILL HADER - SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE
NEW YORK (AP) -- Stefon is moving on. Bill Hader, the comedian who does the character on "Saturday Night Live" is leaving the show, now that the season finale is in the books. The club-hopping correspondent appeared one last time over the weekend -- and his skits include a wacky wedding and an appearance with Ian Rubbish, the character played by Fred Armisen. Armisen is also leaving the show, if you go by the reports that have been going around. Armisen is best known for his portrayal of President Barack Obama. Kayne West was the musical guest and Ben Affleck was the host.

CANDICE GLOVER ON SINGING WITH JENNIFER HUDSON
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The newest "American Idol" winner says she got the title because she stopped trying to please the judges and viewers -- and tried to please herself. Candice Glover auditioned twice for the show before taking it all last week. She says her first two times around, she worried too much about what the judges expected of her or what she thought the voters at home would like. And though you wouldn't have known it from the way they performed together, Glover says she was nervous about singing alongside former "Idol" hopeful and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson. She said she had to keep telling herself that she couldn't -- as she put it -- "suck" when singing with Hudson.
"American Idol" winner Candice Glover says she took risks with her song choices because she grew confident as she got older.

AMERICAN IDOL RATINGS DOWN AGAIN
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The contestants are still singing and the judges are still bickering. But is America still watching? The latest numbers indicate that "American Idol" is in a downward spiral when it comes to viewers. The latest Nielsen ratings say last week's finale drew "only" 14.3 million viewers. We say only because that is a one-third drop from last year's finale numbers -- and that was an all-time low for the show, just wrapping up its 12th season. Making the numbers seem worse for Fox -- viewership is down among young adult viewers -- the ones that rake in the biggest ad dollars.
AMERICAN IDOL JUDGES MOVING ON?
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Some feel the on-stage and backstage bickering between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj may have hurt "American Idol" this season. And there are signs that maybe Fox is getting tired of their act, too. There are reports that producers will clean house at the judges' table for next season -- with Carey, Minaj and Keith Urban expected not to be asked back for another go-round. Original judge Randy Jackson is already gone, making his final appearance after 12 seasons this past Thursday. Fox also plans some tweaks to the show's format -- though those changes haven't yet been announced.
"THE VOICE" GETS ITS ORIGINAL JUDGES BACK
NEW YORK (AP) -- Last week, the "The Voice" beat out "American Idol" in the ratings battle. And the show has been pretty drama free with its judges-as-coaches panel. Coincidence? The show has even figured out a way to keep its two replacements in the mix. When Usher and Shakira replaced CeeLo Green and Christina Aguilera this season, the two fit in nicely. Now that the originals are returning, NBC is keeping the replacements around, too. The network says Green and Aguilera will return for season five, joining Adam Levine and Blake Shelton -- while Shakira and Usher will return for season 6, which will air in midseason next year.
O.J. SIMPSON'S LAWYER DEFENDS SELF
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Now, it's up to a Nevada judge to decide whether O.J. Simpson will get a new trial on his armed robbery and kidnapping conviction. A weeklong hearing wrapped up this past Friday in Las Vegas -- with Simpson's legal team claiming he was misrepresented during his case. His ex-lawyer Yale Galanter was on the stand Friday, defending himself against allegations that he failed to defense Simpson properly. Among the claims made was that Galanter knew in advance about Simpson's plans to recover sports memorabilia he considered his -- and signed off on the raid. Galanter denies it, calling suggestions that he did "insane." The judge will issue a ruling in writing -- but didn't say when that would be.
Attorney Yale Galanter says he did not give O.J. Simpson the go-ahead to try to get the items he wanted back.
