Greene praised at final commission meeting
Palm Beach County staff and members of the public honored Commissioner Addie Greene at her final commission meeting on Tuesday.
Greene is stepping down from the job she has held since 2000. She previously served four terms in the state House of Representatives, and before that was mayor of Mangonia Park.
Constituents and members of Greene's staff thanked and praised Greene for her years of service. At times Greene wiped away tears.
Fellow commissioners also had kind words for Greene and County Administrator Bob Weisman presented Greene with flowers. By the same token, Greene thanked and praised Weisman, her counterparts on the board, and her staff.
Greene said, "I'm here to serve, number one, my God. Number two, he put me here to serve my people and that's what I have enjoyed doing ever since I've been a public servant."
Greene is going to work for the Palm Beach County Black Caucus. Governor Charlie Crist has yet to name Greene's replacement.
