Indian River County H1N1 vaccination locations

VERO BEACH -- County residents can get an H1N1 vaccine Saturday, November 14th, at the Indian River County Fairgrounds, 7955 58th Avenue in Vero Beach.

About 4,000 doses will be available for people identified as being in the highest risk group. The clinic runs from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Vaccinations are voluntary and free.

The highest risk group is made up of people who are at highest risk for complications related to H1N1 influenza, those most likely to come in contact with H1N1, and those most likely to infect young infants. These include pregnant women, persons aged six months through 24 years of age, household and caregiver contacts of children younger than six months of age, healthcare and emergency medical services personnel, and persons aged 25 through 64 years who have medical conditions associated with a higher risk of influenza complications such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma, and kidney disease.

Those younger than 18 years of age cannot sign the required consent form and must be accompanied by a family member or legal guardian authorized to provide consent. Children aged six months through nine years need to receive two doses of the H1N1 vaccine separated by an interval of 28 days (minimum 21 days) in order to develop the same level of immunity that older people attain from a single dose.

All Indian River County H1N1 vaccination clinics will be posted on the IRCHD Web site, www.MyIRCHD.com, and the Florida Department of Health (DOH) H1N1 Web site, www.MyFluSafety.com. Public information about the H1N1 virus and vaccine also is available via the DOH H1N1 hotline: 1-877-FLA-FLU1 (352-3581).
