Bankruptcy judges may be able to stop foreclosures

Bankruptcy judges are one step closer to being able to alter mortgage terms.  It's a bill to save homes from foreclosure if the owner files for bankruptcy.  The judge would then be able to alter the mortgage terms if the person is in bankruptcy. this bill is now moving closer to a House vote. The House Judiciary Committee, allowed the measure to move on to the full House, but first it amended the law, so it could only work for mortgages, that exist, before the bill becomes law.  Republicans opposed the bill, saying it would increase lending costs and encourage borrowers, to file for bankruptcy.  Many say that would overwhelm the courts.
