Horses Take-Over Lake Worth

Last week, The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office took over the Lake Worth Police Department. So, to get neighbors used to the change, a special unit is on patrol.

It's not everyday you see horses in Lake Worth. Nathaniel Worthington says, "Very odd very odd, I couldn't believe it." Lynn Wiseman says, "It was a real surprise. I'm not used to seeing horses in town."

Meet Moranis, Max and Mooney, 3 new additions to the streets. Sgt. John Howley says, "We'll probably be in here as much as we can for the next month or 2, just so people can get used to us being in their neighborhoods."

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Mounted Unit is making the rounds, getting residents, like James Hoffman, comfortable with the sight of the horses, "I think it's great, glad to finally see them in the neighborhood and it's a long time coming. I think it's a great improvement."

That is the Sheriff's office goal, getting residents used to their presence and abilities, "We can get to a lot of areas that a car can't, we can basically get anywhere a person can on foot."

Lake Worth residents will not only see horses, but new patrol cars as well, "I'm just happy to see them out in force and everywhere around Lake Worth, it is really making a difference," says Worthington.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office has 4 Deputies on horseback. They 4 cover the entire Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office coverage area. They do plan to trot in Lake Worth at least once a week.
