Help may be closer for Chinese Drywall victims
Comments 0 | Recommend 0BOYTNON BEACH- Mark Teller described it as a, "Nice, quiet, clean atmosphere, it was a brand new building."
When Mark Teller moved into his apartment at Renaissance Commons in Boynton Beach. He thought he found his dream home. But soon after he unpacked his things he noticed some strange things.
"I smelled a sulfur smell. I saw rust around the ceiling the air conditioning vents," Teller said. And then he started suffering from health problems. "I waslosing my voice, headaches, eye aches, body aches, and started running tests."
For almost two years Teller suffered those health consequences while he was living here at Rennesaince Commons in Boynton Beach. But it is by no means the only building with bad Chinese dry wall in our area.
The Whitney building, in downtown West Palm Beach, is another example of a building filled with bad Chinese dry wall. But Rennesaince Commons and The Whitney here are just two examples of thousands here in Florida and across the country, still in limbo.
Now Teller says he is cautiously more optimistic that something will happen for Chinese dry wall victims like himself. Consumer Product Safety Commission Chairwoman Inez Tenebaum is now calling on the Chinese manufacturers of the tainted drywall to, "carefully examine their responsibilies to U.S. Families who have been harmed and do what is fair and just."
The government has conducted extensive testing, and the results suggest products from the following companies should be avoided:
Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin Co. Ltd.
Taian Taishan Plasterboard
Shandong Teihe Dongxin
Shandong Chenxiang GBM
Beijing New Building Materials
Teller says after years of doctor's appointments and letter writing to elected officials he feels like he is closer than he's ever been to getting help. But he still remains skeptical of what U.S. officials can do - until that help finally comes.
