Mother Waits 5 Weeks To Report Missing Child
Authorities are digging up her grandparents yard after being tipped off that her mother borrowed a shovel about the time the child went missing.
Deputies are digging through a woman's backyard looking for clues into the disappearance of her 2 year old granddaughter. Caylee Anthony has been missing for more than a month. Her mother, Casey Anthony, told investigators she dropped Caylee off with a friend on June 9th. She told police she since lost contact with that friend.
Still, investigators want to know why the mother waited weeks before reporting her child missing. Authorities were finally notified of Caylee's disappearance on Wednesday after her grandmother, Cynthia Anthony, called police. Orange County Sheriff's deputies dug up the backyard of Caylee's grandparent's home after they received a tip from a neighbor claiming Anthony borrowed a shovel from them a month ago.
According to the police report, Anthony claimed that she was working as an event coordinator at Universal Studios. After giving investigators the name and extension of her supervisor, both turned out to be false. In addition, the head of the events department confirmed that Anthony has not been an employee in the past or present.
Anthony was also unable to provide investigators with the address of her work or a company ID, according to police.
Anthony is behind bars, so far held only on child neglect charges.
