POLICE: Home invasion robber cuts cable, waits for victim to check outside

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A elderly woman was attacked and her home robbed when she went in her backyard to check why her cable television signal had been lost.

Fort Lauderdale police report the home invasion robbery happened about 7:50 p.m. Dec. 30 in the 1500 block of Northeast Sixth Street. Police say the 80-year-old female resident was watching television when the cable signal was lost. As she went out the back door to check it, she was assaulted and forced back inside, where the black male suspect rummaged through her home, stealing an as-yet undetermined amount of property.

The woman ran to a neighbor's house to call police after the suspect fled. She was taken to Broward General Medical Center for treatment of her injuries, and has since been released.

No further suspect description is available.

Police believe the incident is isolated and the victim was likely targeted because of her age and living situation.

Investigators are urging anyone with further information about the robbery to contact Detective Jason Wood at 954-828-5344 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
