Feed your family for $30

Pounds and pounds of food at discount prices. It's a service to help those struggling financially without breaking the bank. The best part: It's not just for the needy, it's for anyone, no qualifiers needed. For $30 dollars you can feed a family of four for a week with everything from eggs to steaks.

Pounds of food gobbled up by the Blount family all for $30. Mom, Christine Blount, says, "The average family, if you can imagine cutting your food budget in half. It's huge." Huge for a bouncing family of six on a budget, "It's kept us from actually having to go to a local food bank or you know some sort of hand out. I can actually afford our food," says Christine.

Blount and her teacher husband can afford the food thanks to the non-profit group out of Georgia, Angel Food Ministries.

Tom Rogers's church is just one of more than a dozen in South Florida reaching out to those in need. Rogers' church in Palm City says, "It doesn't matter rich or poor. You need food. We are here to help."

He lists off this month's menu: "A pound of italian sausage, deli ham, 20 oz. of potatoes, pasta." You can also get chicken, fries, eggs and dessert all to feed a family of four for one week. You pay again, only $30. Retail price: expect to pay almost $60. Rogers says, "There is the question on what is this? How do we go about doing this? What do I need to do to qualify? There are no qualifiers."

The Blount's all agree it is worth it and the food is delicious. 4th grader, Victoria Blount, says, "We get steak, meat and hamburgers and I am like, "Oh my gosh when can we have this?" They buy two boxes a month, and buy a few extras at their local grocery store, like bread.

Besides the box of food, you can also buy a few add-ons like a box of ready to grill meats or veggies and fruit.

To start saving now head to: www.angelfoodministries.com.

Fill out a form online or pick up a form at one of the 15 ministries in our area offering the food. At the end of each month pick up your food. Again, you don't need to show or prove anything.
