Rape plot foiled

"They said their intentions were they were going to rape her, duct tape her, and leave her in the woods," said Detective Ted Van Deman.

Detectives credit "old fashion police work" with unraveling a violent crime targeted against women.  This promised to be a nightmare.  Deputies in Okeechobee say they've arrested three men who were ready to rape a woman, any woman, in a neighborhood filled with families.  Alert deputies intercepted the men before they struck.  What were three men going to do with these weapons in this neighborhood?  Detectives say if they hadn't stopped this suspicious car leaving Bonnee Waring's neighborhood she could have been a victim.

Bonnee said, "That just blows my mind."

Bonnee has two boys, Josh and Caleb.  She lives in the Kings Bay subdivision in Okeechobee where the men were seen cruising last Friday night.

"I'm a stay at home mom with the kids, so I'm here all day and that's scary to me," said Bonnee.

Even more frightening is that these men you see here were from out of town.  Deputies say they plotted to rape a women at the end of their road trip.

Detective Van Deman said, "They drove 40 minutes, they had 40 minutes to think about what they were going to do."

But an undercover deputy spotted their maroon car, pulled them over for a burned out tail light.

"When the officer exited their vehicle the three occupants of the car started stuffing things under the front seat," said Van Deman.

The deputy had a feeling this wasn't going to be an average traffic stop.  They got permission to check out the car, and once they got inside they found the guns and the duct tape.  However they say it's the story that came next that really shocked them.

Van Deman, said, "They all had agreed in Pahokee to come up here to kidnap a woman, bind her with duct tape and rape her."

Bonnee said, "There's single moms, stay at home moms, single people we're everywhere alone.

Bonnee knows it could have been any woman, it could have been her.

Bonnee said, "I don't carry anything with me, I haven't been worried about anything like that happening around here."

She says she'll still be out walking everyday with her two boys, but her peaceful easy feeling about these streets is shattered.  All three men are still in the Okeechobee County Jail.  Bond is set at more than 100 thousand dollars for each of them.
