Police looking for family of man in fatal canal accident

John Bachman

PALM BEACH COUNTY--- Police are now looking for the family of a 43-year-old man who died after his car plunged into a canal. Divers recovered the body of the man after he battled to stay afloat following an accident near 20 mile bend in Western Palm Beach County.

Deputies say the man went off the road and overcorrected himself but the car went into the canal.

The back end of the 2003 grey or silver Chevy Trailblazer was sinking when the driver was able to kick out the windshield and escape the car.

A witness and a sheriff's deputy came to help as the man tried to swim to the side of the canal. He was unable to swim to safety.

They even threw him some rope, but he still went underwater and drowned.

Deputies have not released the man's name as they try to reach his family.
