Meal Deals: Saving on Meats
Comments 0 | Recommend 0It's likely the most expensive part of your grocery bill. Most families don't like to skimp when buying meat. It's most likely going to be your entree tonight, but that doesn't mean you can't save when at the meat counter.
The easiest thing to do is to jump on sales and then freeze whatever you can't eat right away. If you're up for a little work you can save a ton of money by deboning your own chicken. That can save you anywhere from $1.50 to $4 per pound.
Another chance to save is to downgrade the cut of beef you buy. Instead of tenderloin or rib eye you can look for chucks or shanks. Those are good choices because they are lean, but remember lower quality cuts should be cooked longer to make them more tender.
Another way to help a lower quality of meat is to marinade it. Skip the store made marinades and make your own to save even more. I just tried one made with a little olive oil, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, rosemary and garlic. It's a cheap way to turn cheap meat into a tasty meal.
