Teen Vadal Off The Hook

Should the teen who ripped up a school soccer field with his parents SUV have gone to jail?

The school doesn't think so.

The attorney for St. Joseph's Episcopal School in Boynton Beach told us today they didn't want the teen to become a convicted felon and they believe he learned his lesson.

As we told you yesterday, the state has dropped charges against 18-year-old Derek Parker of Manalapan.

This after his parents paid the school $29-thousand 5-hundred dollars in restitution, and Parker did some community service.

He was arrested in March, after police say he took his parents' SUV on a joyride and did "donuts" on the school's soccer field, destroying the sod. Boynton Beach Police caught him due to the On-Star system in the SUV. Police say he was driving so erratically on the soccer field that the On-Star system sensed there was a collision and called for help. Police got records from On-Star that showed the longitude and latitude of the truck that night, proving that it was on the soccer field. They also had an audio tape of Parker, who was recorded as he responded to the On-Star operator after she inquired if he needed help.
