Sheriff Officers investigate an officer involved shooting
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is working an officer involved shooting that occurred at Gabriel Lane & Jason Way, West Palm Beach.
On Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008 approximately 9:55 p.m. a white Jeep Cherokee was stolen from an apartment complex at 10th Ave & Florida Mango. As the suspect was fleeing the complex he struck and killed a bicyclist.
A description of the vehicle was broadcast over deputies radio. Approximately 2:20 a.m. a deputy located the stolen vehicle in the area of Summit Blvd and Florida Mango. The deputy followed the vehicle to Jason Way and attempted to affect a traffic stop. The vehicle drove towards the deputy, in fear of his life, he fired twice striking the passenger side door.
After the shots were fired the suspect fled the area. A pursuit ensued to the location of Holt Road and Kent Street. The suspect bailed out of the vehicle. A perimeter was set up and he was located at approximately 4:00 a.m. without incident. The passenger was located in the vehicle with a graze wound to the buttock area. She was treated on scene.
As of 3:30 p.m. Sunday authorities have not identified the deceased bicyclist. They believe he may have been homeless.
The suspect has been identified as Angelo Perez, and he is being charged with grand theft and DUI manslaughter. The female passenger has been identified as Tina Calamusa, from Lake Worth.
