Store clerk talks robber out of robbing her; invokes Jesus
POMPANO BEACH -- Police are searching for the man who was talked out of robbing a cell phone store by a clerk who told him Jesus wanted more out of him.
Nayara Goncalves was alone in a MetroPCS store, located at 1543 South Cypress Road, at about 10 a.m. July 23 when a man walked in and pretended to be interested in purchasing a phone. He engaged Goncalves in pleasant conversation before displaying a gun and demanding money from the cash register.
Goncalves told the suspect she wasn’t judging him and that “Jesus [has] something way better for you.” During their five-minute long conversation, Goncalves was able to convince the robber not to hurt her.
The man, who is about five-foot-nine with a moustache and in his late 30s or 40s, left empty-handed.
Anyone with information about the man is asked to call Broward County Sheriff's Robbery Det. Tony Hierrezuelo at (954) 321-4270 or call Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at (954) 493-TIPS or online at www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
