Man Dead After Shooting at Taco Bell

Authorities Search Overnight For Suspects

A homicide investigation is underway in Lantana after a man is shot and killed at a fast food restaurant.

Authorities were called to the Taco Bell on Hypoluxo Road between I-95 and Seacrest Boulevard around 12:30 am.

Witnesses say that a black male in his late teens or early 20's was in the drive-thru of the restaurant when some sort of fight broke out. Several gunshots were fired and a group of men was seen running from the area.

When they deputies got to the scene, they found a man dead from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was in a white, four-door Mercury sedan on the other side of Hypoluxo.

The fast food restaurant is an older one, said Sgt. Rick McAfee of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, and so it does not appear as though the incident was caught on videotape.

"This is an older Taco Bell, and the management on at night did not know what [video] capabilities they had, if anything," McAfee said, "so we're going to have to wait until their day shift representatives come on."

"Right now we have no surveillance video that we came across to give us any investigative leads," he added. "We do have some witnesses, and we're sorting through their stories to see what kind of value they have."

The victim has not been identified, but the car he was found in is registered to Broward County.

Authorities spent hours searching for several men seen taking off to the neighborhood just south of restaurant. Deputies used K-9 units and the sheriff's helicopter, but didn't find anything.

Anyone with information is asked to call Palm Beach County CrimeStoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
