Protesting Photo-Speeding Tickets
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Juno Beach, FL- Hearing chambers at Juno Beach Town Hall are packed two Thursdays a month. The time is set aside for suspected speeders who have received tickets from the infamous unmarked, unmanned white van to argue why their citation should be thrown out. Town officials say the hearings are packed lately.
Juno police say less than one percent of people cited with photo-tickets appeal. Thirty people signed up to appeal Thursday. Only a handful had their cases thrown out. Polices say the main reasons tickets are dismissed is because of a medical emergency, if the car was stolen or if the car owner did not give permission to whoever was driving and speeding.
The photo-tickets are $125 for a first time offense and climb to $250 for a second ticket. Town officials say since enforcement using the van started in Mark, 6,650 photo-tickets have been issued. The fines have generated more than $60,000 for Juno Beach's general budget.
