Former Tim Mahoney mistress suspended
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The chips continue to fall around former Florida Congressman Tim Mahoney. The second mistress in the Mahoney sex scandal has been suspended from her high-ranking government job.
CBS 12 was the first news outlet to get this letter of reprimand in the Tim Mahoney Mistress Scandal. The letter is addressed to Martin County Engineer Kim Roden, the second mistress to be named in the Mahoney mess.
He lost a re-election bid and his wife over the first mistress, his own former staffer. Now, Roden is getting in trouble for her relationship with Mahoney.
Roden, a top building official, lead the fight to get FEMA reimbursement from the federal government. She worked with Mahoney to get the funds to Martin County and at the same time had what the county is calling an inappropriate relationship with the Congressman.
Martin County administrators say there's been no favoritism due to the Mahoney-Roden affair, but they did get their FEMA money before anyone else and are now caught up in the FBI investigation into his affairs.
"We have not been contacted by the FBI. We still stand by the fact that we received the reimbursement based upon the facts of the case." said Martin County Administrator Duncan Ballantyne, "This has brought a tremendous amount of unwanted and unwarranted attention on us."
The letter of reprimand to Roden says:
*Employees are required to act in the best interests of the County and avoid actions or relationships which may create a conflict of interest."
"Assigned to act as the County's liaison with its Congressman.. you engaged in a highly personal relationship with the County's Congressman, which has created the appearance of impropriety"
"As a high ranking official, you should have known.. your conduct demonstrates poor judgement."
"A 3-day suspension without pay"
Roden has a right to appeal the decision. For months now, high ranking females in county government here wanted her named, so the focus was off of them.
Now it's out and the shadow of this story again is on the administration building with media outlets calling from around the nation--again.
To put it bluntly, county administrators say even if she did nothing illegal--this affair and her direct dealing with Mahoney makes Martin County look bad.

Terry Mahoney's attorney, Karen Steger, said Mahoney promised to end the affairs, and that did not happen. Steger says Roden and Mahoney continue their affair, vacationing twice in the last month.
"As time has gone on it is obvious that he had no intent of working on his marriage with his wife." said Terry Mahoney's divorce attorney Karen Steger, "Mrs. Mahoney is a very private person as you know up until today I have made any statements on her behalf, nor has she given any interviews because she wanted this to be private and to get this divorce, and mourn the death of her marriage in a business-like fashion. This has been very difficult for her." Steger said.
"The fact that this has been so public has been very hard on her. She is a very private person and wishes to remain so."
As for Roden and Tim Mahoney, County Administrator Ballantyne said she is now allowed to continue their personal relationship, no longer a liasion for the Congressman and the County.
