Accused rapist doesn't show up for trial

WEST PALM BEACH -- A trial that was expected to begin today in the case of a man who raped a woman at gunpoint is delayed because he did not show up.

Investigators are now searching for Bruce Martin, who is accused of impersonating a police officer and raping an aspiring model.

Police said Martin contacted the woman on Craigslist and offered to take modeling pictures of her. He then reportedly used a fake police badge to get the woman into his car at their meeting point in Lantana.  Once inside his sports car, police said, Martin raped the woman at gunpoint.

The woman was able to escape. She screamed to a maintenance worker for help but he didn't speak English. Another passer-by saw her barefoot and crying and stopped to take her back to her vehicle. She later identified Martin's car and picked him out of a photo lineup.
