Family honors son killed in plane crash
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Tyler McLellan was only 15 years old when he died. This weekend his family is remembering their son, and raising money to help out kids in South Florida.
"There's never I love you, see you tomorrow, talk to you soon," says Tyler McLellan's dad, Kevin. Kevin McLellan misses his 15 year-old son, Tyler, every day, "Life's just not been the same because of the fact that Tyler is not here."
Almost one year ago, Tyler was flying with a family friend for cancer treatment in Tampa. The plane crashed killing all three on board. Now, a year later, the family is trying to bring something good out of the tragedy. Kevin says, "The foundation is great thing for him. It helps me a lot dealing with the grief."
His father started the Tyler McLellan Foundation. Tyler loved sports, so the foundation helps raise money for kids who can't afford to play. Dennis Hanna has seen first hand Tyler's legacy. Hanna says, "For them to have the heart to help in his son's name is amazing." Hanna is the head coach for First Choice Traveling Basketball team in Riviera Beach. Tyler's Foundation helped the 12 kids make it to tournaments. Without the donations, the sport would be tough to play. Hanna says, "Without the help we wouldn't have been able to go to places we have been this year."
This Saturday Tyler's dad is holding a giant fundraiser for the Foundation. He hopes it brings fun, memories, and support for other kids. "Tyler's Day" will be this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Palm Beach Central High. There will be pro-football players like Baltimore Raven Lional Dalton and Minnesota Vikings WR Anthony Carter, live music by "Dear Dad, Yours Truly," face-painting, clowns, and bounce houses for kids.
