Albany State University in Georgia wrote to the Canal Point Elementary student offering him a full four-year scholarship.
"In life we do many things, but to realize a life goal at such a young age is truly a wonderful accomplishment. I am sure your family, friends and your school are very proud of you . We, too, at Albany State University have followed your young career and share the pride with citizens of South Florida, " wrote Albany State University President Everett Freeman.
Freeman, noting that the university is home of the Center for The African American Male, wrote to Weaver, "For the next seven years devoted staff and the university administrators at ASU will assist you along the way by encouraging your participation in the programs that are offered through the Center for the African American Male (CAAM) and other appropriate programs, such as Albany Early College, and programs that can specifically designed for you while you are off campus, and you are encouraged to participate in programs such as Kiddie College during the summer."
According to the University, Weaver said, "I'm really happy, I didn't know how I was going to be able to afford college, and now this is a big relief to my mother and my family." Weaver said he plans to take Albany State up on the offer.
Weaver's Principal Lavoise Smith and teacher Brian Zimmerman, who mentored and guided Weaver's career, are ecstatic about the offer.
