U.S. Reps. Alcee Hastings and Tom Rooney visit Boys & Girls Club of Martin County
Comments 0 | Recommend 0HOBE SOUND –In a rare bi-partisan visit, U.S. Reps. Alcee Hastings (D-FL) and Tom Rooney (R-FL) on Thursday toured the Cole-Clark branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County.
The two legislators were first treated to a performance by the Indiantown branch’s Steel Pan Band, which played “God Bless America” on the steel drums outside the Clubhouse. Then Boys & Girls Club Executive Director Anne McCormick took them, along with Martin County Commissioner Doug Smith and United Way Board Member Nick Blount, through the Club and introduced them to members who were busy playing in the gymnasium, working on homework and participating in art projects.
“We hope Congressmen Rooney and Hastings, by joining forces today at the Boys & Girls Club, will continue to be advocates for the children of Martin County,” McCormick said. “We were honored by their visit and hope to continue a positive relationship for the benefit of our Club members.”
Hastings, a former Club member who attended a Boys & Girls Club in New Jersey while growing up, and Rooney also enjoyed a Power Point presentation in the room where children spend hours learning and playing each day after school. McCormick shared conceptual plans for new facility to meet the needs of Indiantown as it grows into the agricultural and alternative energy hub of Martin County.
