Meal Deals: Which Store Sells the Cheapest Canned Goods
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Buying canned goods is already a good way to save on your grocery bill, but where you buy them can make a difference.
All week we've been putting three of the big grocery store chains to the test to see who has the best meal deals.
I went to Publix, Winn Dixie and Wal Mart in my neighborhood.
I had a grocery list and looked for the cheapest prices in all the stores. In this case it was almost always the store brand.
Baked beans are the perfect side dish for grilling. At Publix it will set you back $.63 a can. Winn Dixie is the most expensive at $.73 a can, but Wal Mart's Great Value brand is the winner at just $.46 a can.
On to green beans where Publix had them for $.89. Winn Dixie was at $.79 cents and the winner again is Wal Mart at $.51.
Canned corn in Publix was $.89. It was $.75 at Winn Dixie and Wal Mart was the lowest at just $.50.
Peas in a can are $.89 in Publix. $.75 at Winn Dixie and staying consistent Wal Mart is the cheapest at $.51. Add up our grocery list and Publix is the most expensive at $3.30. Winn Dixie came in second at $3.01. Wal Mart is amazingly low at just $1.98.
The Wal Mart brand Great Value is just that. No store came close to beating the prices. But, remember sales happen all the time and what is the cheapest today might not be tomorrow.
I'm also looking for meal deal recipes. If you have cheap but great tasting favorites email them to me at mealdeals@cbs12.com.
