Marlins trade Cantu to Rangers

The Florida Marlins have traded third baseman Jorge Cantu to the Texas Rangers for a pair of minor league pitchers and cash.

In exchange for Cantu the Marlins received right handed pitchers Evan Reed and Omar Poveda. Both are low minor league prospects.

Reed, 24 last played for Double-A Frisco going 1-1, 1.62 with five saves in 30 relief appearances. He also made one appearance with Triple-A Oklahoma City, working 2.0 innings in relief.

Poveda, 22, is currently on the 60-day disabled list recovering from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, performed on March 3. In 2009, he tied for the Texas League lead in complete games (2) and shutouts (1) and tied for second in wins (11) at Double-A Frisco, going 11-5, 4.14 in 22 starts.

The move ends a week of speculation on Cantu's status with the Fish.
