Tiger Woods stuck at par after posting another 70

By John Evenson
There's a number that's been following Tiger Woods around since Thursday at the Honda Classic, and that number us 70. Woods stayed in neutral on Saturday, posting his third straight par 70 in round three of the tournament, to enter tomorrow's final round at even par.

Woods lost his ball after his tee shot on the 17th hole, leading to a double bogey, and pulled off a tough par on 18 to maintain that streak of par rounds he's been experiencing since Thursday.

Tiger will begin Sunday eight strokes back of co-leaders Luke Guthrie and Michael Thompson.

MLB-SCHEDULE

UNDATED (AP) -- The Cleveland Indians' bullpen surrendered a game-tying homer in the eighth inning, a go-ahead blast in the ninth and a tiebreaking shot in the 10th. The Indians still managed to win.

Yan Gomes (yahn gohmz) belted a three-run homer in the 10th inning to give Cleveland a 10-8 win and its first four-game sweep of the Mariners since 1981. Cleveland trailed in the ninth and 10th innings until Gomes went deep for the second time this afternoon, sending the Indians to their 18th victory in 22 games.

Ryan Raburn socked a three-run homer for the Indians, who took advantage of two misplays by the Mariners' bullpen to earn their third walkoff win of the series.

The Indians' fifth straight win gives them a 2 1/2-game lead over Detroit in the AL Central.

Also in the majors, Julio Teheran carried a shutout into the ninth and allowed five hits over 8 1/3 innings of Atlanta's 5-1 win against Minnesota. Dan Uggla (UHG'-lah) smacked a three-run homer as the Braves won their fourth in a row.

Jay Bruce crushed a solo homer in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie in Cincinnati's 4-3 win over the New York Mets. Bruce and Brandon Phillips each had two RBIs, allowing the Reds to withstand a game-tying, three-run homer by Marlon Byrd in the third inning.

Clayton Kershaw tossed a three-hitter and the Dodgers belted two solo homers in a 3-1 victory at Milwaukee. Andre Ethier (EE'-thee-ur) and Matt Kemp each went deep as Los Angeles ended a three-game skid.

Patrick Corbin needed just 97 pitches to toss a three-hitter in Arizona's 5-1 verdict over Colorado. Didi Gregorious had three hits and two RBIs to help Corbin improve to 7-0.

Alex Sanabia (sah-NAH'-bee-ah) held Philadelphia to a run and seven hits while pitching into the seventh inning of Miami's 5-1 win over the Phillies. Justin Ruggiano and Nick Green each had two RBIs to help the Marlins drop Cole Hamels to 1-7.

Seth Smith homered and scored three times in Oakland's fourth straight win, a 9-2 rout of Texas. Bartolo Colon (bahr-TOH'-loh koh-LOHN') held the Rangers to a pair of runs and six hits in seven innings, four days before his 40th birthday.

Vernon Wells doubled home the tiebreaking run before scoring on Travis Hafner's single as the New York Yankees rallied to hand the Orioles their sixth straight loss, 6-4 in Baltimore. Hafner also tied the game with a solo homer in the ninth.

The White Sox dealt Jon Lester his first loss of the season and ended Boston's five-game winning streak by downing the Red Sox 6-4. Adam Dunn ripped a three-run homer in the first inning before Alejandro De Aza and Alexei Ramirez added consecutive RBI doubles in the second.

Kansas City has a four-game losing streak after Matt Dominguez hit a three-run homer and Jason Castro added a solo shot in Houston's 6-5 win over the visiting Royals. The Royals wasted Miguel Tejada's (the-HAH'-dahz) three-run homer and fell a game under .500 for the first time since April 6.

Edwin Encarnacion (ehn-kahr-nah-see-OHN') lined a tiebreaking, three-run double in the bottom of the seventh as Toronto downed Tampa Bay 7-5. Brett Lawrie and Muenori Kawasaki each hit RBI triples to support R.A. Dickey, who allowed just two earned runs and four hits in eight innings.

UNDATED (AP) -- Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard avoided the disabled list after undergoing an MRI on his sore left knee on Monday. Catcher Carlos Ruiz wasn't as lucky.

The Phils say Howard is day to day after battling knee pain for the last two weeks. He's hitting .245 with six homers and 22 RBIs in 41 games and has carved out a .179 average in 16 games this month.

Ruiz is going on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring, prompting the Phillies to recall catcher Humberto Cuintero (uhm-BEHR'-toh kihn-TEHR'-oh) from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Ruiz is expected to be out three to four weeks.

The Phils also played reliever Mike Adams on the 15-day DL retroactive to May 11 due to a back strain.

In other major league news, Outfielder Bryce Harper returned to Washington's lineup on Monday after missing two games with a bruised knee. Last season's NL Rookie of the Year was hurt last week when he ran into a wall at Dodger Stadium.

The Rangers have designated 39-year-old pitcher Derek Lowe for assignment to make room for Josh Lindblom, who made his first career big league start against Oakland on Monday. Lowe has allowed 13 runs in 13 innings since making the Rangers out of training camp.

NHL PLAYOFFS-RED WINGS/BLACKHAWKS

DETROIT (AP) -- The Detroit Red Wings are up two games to one against the top-seeded Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL's Western Conference semifinals.

Gustav Nyquist and Drew Miller scored 31 seconds apart in the second period before the Wings completed a 3-1 win over the Hawks. The game was scoreless until Nyquist beat Corey Crawford at 7:49 of the middle stanza.

Patrick Kane got the Blackhawks within a goal at 4:35 of the final period, but Pavel Datsyuk (DAHT'-sook) restored Detroit's two-goal lead just over two minutes later after the Hawks had a game-tying goal waved off because of a crease violation.

Jimmy Howard made 15 of his 38 saves in the final period for the Red Wings, who host Game 4 on Thursday.

NHL-DUCKS-BEAUCHEMIN

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Anaheim defenseman Francois Beauchemin (BOH'-shih-mihn) underwent successful reconstructive surgery on a ligament in his right knee last Thursday. The Ducks announced Monday that Beauchemin hopes to return in time for the start of next season. The 33-year old is expected to fully recover.

Beauchemin had an outstanding season for the Ducks, getting six goals and 18 assists with a plus-19 rating.

NBA-BOBCATS/NAME CHANGE

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- A person familiar with the situation says Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan is changing his team's name to the Hornets and will announce the decision at a news conference on Tuesday. NBA deputy commissioner and COO Adam Silver has said it would take "about 18 months" for the Bobcats to change their name. The nickname became available when the New Orleans Hornets changed theirs to the Pelicans.

NBA-KINGS SALE/HANSEN

SEATTLE (AP) -- Investor Chris Hansen has congratulated Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson on his efforts to keep the NBA's Kings in California but vows to bring an NBA franchise back to Seattle. Hansen's attempts to purchase the Kings and move them to Seattle were denied by the NBA Board of Governors last week in Dallas before Sacramento investors purchased a controlling interest in the team from the Maloof family. Hansen again called on Seattle fans to remain patient in the attempts of his investor group to either purchase an existing franchise or work for an expansion team.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL-TRANSFERS

UNDATED (AP) -- Guard Malik Smith has signed his tender to transfer from Florida International to Minnesota, where he will be reunited with new Golden Gophers coach Richard Pitino, son of the Louisville national championship head coach.

Smith averaged 14.1 points per game as a junior starter for FIU last season. He will be eligible to play right away because FIU will be banned from postseason play next season thanks to poor academic performance under previous coach Isiah Thomas.

And Memphis forward Tarik Black is transferring to Kansas and will be eligible to play immediately.

Black has graduated from Memphis and has one year of eligibility left. He averaged 8.1 points and 4.8 rebounds for the Tigers last season, starting five of his 32 games.
