PREAKNESS

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Oxbow, a 15-to-1 longshot under 50-year-old jockey Gary Stevens, has captured the 138th Preakness Stakes in a huge upset, in the second leg of horse racing's Triple Crown at Pimlico Race Course. It's the sixth Preakness champion for Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas.

"I get paid to spoil dreams," Lukas said after the race.

Stevens, a Hall of Famer who came out of a seven-year retirement this year, has now ridden winners in three Preakness Stakes. Stevens gunned Oxbow out of the gate early and was never seriously challenged. He hit the wire in a minute, 57.54 seconds to win by three lengths. Itsmyluckday ran second and Mylute was third.

Orb, the 3-year-old winner of the Kentucky Derby, never fired. Orb got boxed in along the backstretch and finished fourth at 3-to-5 odds.

There has not been a Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978.

MLB-SCHEDULE

UNDATED (AP) -- The Yankees continued their domination of the Blue Jays with a 7-2 win. Robinson Cano (kan-OH') banged out a pair of home runs in the game as the Yankees beat the Jays for the ninth straight time at Yankee Stadium. In nine games played this season between the two teams, the Yankees have now won eight times. The American League Eastern rivals square off again tomorrow with CC Sabathia (suh-BATH'-ee-uh) of the Yankees facing R.A. Dickey.

-- For the second straight day Cleveland walked off with a walk-off win. This time the Indians won on a fielders choice by Mark Reynolds in the bottom of the ninth, beating Seattle 5-4. On Friday night Jason Kipnis hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the tenth for a win. This time it was Kipnis scoring the game winning run from third. The Indians have won 16 of their last 20 games.

-- The Cubs are all of a sudden a hot team. They beat the Mets 8-2 and have won five of seven. Winning pitcher Scott Feldman pitched shutout ball into the seventh inning and drove in two runs with a two-out double to key the win. Feldman has won four straight decisions.

Coming up tonight, Jordan Zimmerman of the Nationals is looking to become baseball's first eight-game winner. He and the Nats are in San Diego to face the Padres and left-hander Eric Stults. Zimmerman starts the day with a record of 7-1 with an earned run average of just 1.69.

Also tonight Lance Lynn of the Cardinals is looking for his seventh win against just one loss. The cards are home to Milwaukee.

NBA PLAYOFFS

UNDATED (AP) -- New York forced a sixth game in its best-of-seven NBA Eastern Conference semifinal with Indiana with an 85-75 win Thursday night. That sixth game will be played tonight in Indianapolis as the Pacers look to close the series out. Part of Indiana's problems in that Game 5 loss was the fact they turned the ball over 19 times.

The series winner will advance to the conference final against defending league champion Miami. The first game in that series will be Wednesday in Miami.

NHL PLAYOFFS

UNDATED (AP) -- The Detroit-Chicago NHL Western Conference semifinal is now tied at 1-1 as the Red Wings beat the Blackhawks in game 2, 4-1. Patrick Kane gave Chicago a 1-0 first period lead before Damien Brunner and Brendan Smith scored in the second period. The Red Wings now have a chance to take the lead when this series between Original Six rivals shifts to Detroit for Game 3 on Monday.

Coming up tonight in San Jose, defending league champion Los Angeles is out to take 3-0 lead over the Sharks. The Kings won the first game 2-0 and the second outing 4-3.

Game 4 will be played in San Jose Tuesday night.

Just hours before the game the NHL fined the Sharks $100,000 for general manager Doug Wilson's public comments about forward Raffi Torres' suspension. The NHL said the fine was issued for violation of rules prohibiting formal team statements to the media during the 48-hour period following a disciplinary decision. The rule calls for an automatic $25,000 fine, and the Sharks were docked an additional $75,000 under an article in the league's constitution because of the "inappropriate nature of the comments."

Torres was suspended for the rest of San Jose's second-round playoff series against Los Angeles on Thursday for an illegal check to the head of Kings forward Jarret Stoll during Game 1.

The Ottawa Senators have gotten some good news, the return of Jason Spezza (SPET'-suh). He hasn't played since Jan. 27 because of back surgery for a herniated disc. The Senators need him back on the ice as they trail Pittsburgh 2-0 in their Eastern Conference playoff series. He's slated to be in the lineup for Sunday's game.

INDIANAPOLIS 500-QUALIFYING

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The start of qualifying for the May 26 Indianapolis 500 was delayed this morning by rain. On the line are the top 24 positions, as well as the pole. Qualifying will continue tomorrow. The start of the qualifying session was delayed by rain.

NASCAR-ALL-STAR RACE

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) -- Carl Edwards will start from the pole for NASCAR's All-Star race tonight at Charlotte Motor Speedway after posting a qualifying speed of 145.556 mph yesterday. Dale Earnhardt was second in qualifying to earn a spot in the front row, just ahead of Kurt Busch and Greg Biffle.

Martin Truex Jr. took the Sprint Showdown pole at 193.424 mph and is joined on the front row by Jamie McMurray. Juan Pablo Montoya and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. make up Row 2.

The showdown covers 40 laps and 60 miles, while the All-Star race is 90 laps or 135 miles. There are four 20-lap segments followed by a 10-lap finale.

The winners of the four 20-lap segments will line up in positions 1-4 entering the mandatory pit stop before the 10-lap final segment. If there is a repeat segment winner, the second-place finisher will get the spot. Only green-flag laps will count in the final segment.

NFL-CHARGERS

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Seven-time Pro Bowler Dwight Freeney has agreed to a two-year contract with San Diego. The deal to bring Freeney to the Chargers came four days after outside linebacker Melvin Ingram tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in a padless practice. Freeney is 33 and entering his 12th season. He is the Colts' career sacks leader with 107 1/2.

PGA-BYRON NELSON CHAMPIONSHIP

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Midway leader Keegan Bradley remains on top of the leaderboard after three rounds of the PGA's Byron Nelson Championship near Dallas. Keegan shot a 2-under-68 in round three to take a one shot lead after 54 holes of play. He stands 13-under par while Sang-Moon Bae is 12-under after a third round 4-under-66.

Tom Gillis is two back of Bradley at 11-under after a 67.

Bradley will be trying to win at TPC Four Seasons for the second time in three years. He could also become the Nelson's first wire-to-wire winner since Tom Watson led alone at the end of all four rounds in 1980.

LPGA-MOBILE BAY

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) -- Anna Nordqvist has the clubhouse lead during the third round of the LPGA's Mobile Bay Classic. She shot an outstanding 11-under-61 in round three and enters the final round at 16-under par. Her round featured 10 birdies, a bogey and an eagle.
